Dover Heights
First settled in the early 1800s by market gardeners, Dover Heights was named for the imposing sandstone cliffs which are a major feature of the suburb and were said to resemble the cliffs of Dover in England. Retail pioneer Daniel Cooper was one of the first landowners in the suburb and owned most of Dover Heights before the suburb was subdivided in 1913. Appreciated early on for its spectacular views and convenience to the city, Dover Heights soon became a desirable suburb, home to a number of impressive residences.
Perched on one of the highest points of Sydney’s eastern suburbs, Dover Heights is a beautiful location offering sweeping views of both the ocean and Sydney Harbour. Holiday accommodation is plentiful and ranges from comfortable family holiday homes through to imposing holiday mansions, many with sweeping views over Sydney Harbour and the Sydney skyline. We have an excellent selection of holiday accommodation available in Dover Heights.
Dover Heights is best known for the dramatic cliffs which plunge into the ocean and can reach up to 80 metres in height. Walkways and reserves are dotted throughout the suburb and often share the oceanfront areas with amazing cliff top residences. Rodney Reserve, Diamond Bay and Christison Park are large open spaces with spectacular ocean views. The western slopes of Dover Heights are renowned for their dramatic city and harbour views. Dudley Page Reserve offers some of the finest views of the Sydney skyline and is a popular spot for tourists to get the best photos of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Opera House and city.
